Comedian Mark Thomas has thrown his support behind the Green Party in Northern Ireland’s election campaign while in Belfast to perform at the Empire Music Hall. The well-known human rights activist was performing his ‘Extreme Ramblings’ show as part of UK and Ireland Tour in Belfast this week when he met with Green Party NI leader Steven Agnew.
In his poignant show, Mark Thomas recounts both his comic and tragic experiences walking the entire length of the Peace Wall that divides Israel and Palestine. Before his performance he enthusiastically endorsed the Green Party in Northern Ireland’s campaign for both Assembly and Council seats in the May elections.
He said: “If you want a party that is actually socially responsible, will care for the environment and work across communities while fighting corporations and putting democracy and people first, then vote for the Green Party – that is why I am supporting them.”
Green Party Leader and North Down MLA candidate Steven Agnew said: “It was an honour to have a meeting with Mark Thomas and exchange ideas. I am delighted that he is endorsing our election campaign as I have long-been an admirer and supporter of his fearless approach to highlighting human rights abuses and his tireless campaigning for social justice.”
