The South Belfast Green Party recently hosted the first in a series of discussion events for people with an interest in green politics.
Belfast International Youth Hostel was the venue for an exchange of views on what first interested those present in green politics, priority issues for greens today and how to put green issues top of the agenda in Northern Ireland.
The event was a great success, with lots of interesting stories on how members and supporters came to be greens – including a couple of surprising political journeys – and enough ideas for advancing the green cause to keep us talking for the next two years, never mind the rest of 2012. Many thanks to all those who took part – some of your thoughts will be shared on this website in the near future.
Hopefully this discussion will continue within the party and the wider green movement – it does us all good to think about and share the reasons why we first got involved and the issues, events or people who inspired us.
Locally, the South Belfast group will be moving on to host a discussion on the impact of the current economic crisis on women. Details of time, venue and speakers will be announced soon.
